st peters congregation

Our Mission

“Living and sharing Jesus' gift of love and hope with all people.”

Our Vision

As we fulfill our mission we believe that God is calling our congregation to become:

vibrant worship

  • A vibrant, inclusive, worshipping community for Christians and for those searching for meaning and purpose, where through the power of the Holy Spirit lives are transformed.
  • An inviting community in which there are trusting relationships and small groupings where all people can  experience a sense of belonging, receive spiritual care in  the congregational family and care for others - a community where people blossom in their faith and in their love for Jesus, share this with others, and bear the fruit of the Spirit.
  • A congregational family which provides nurture, integration, education, training and support for families and parents to help them in their faith journey, and which also facilitates the faith and character development of young people in their care.
  • A congregation characterised by prayer, and the development of the desire and ability to pray.
  • A Christian community where disciples are nurtured, mentored and encouraged as they are equipped to be sent out to invite the unchurched into God's family.
  • A congregation where, through the Holy Spirit, people outside of the kingdom of God are nurtured and transformed into worshipping disciples of Jesus Christ and are equipped in turn for ministry as they experience the love of Christ.
  •

    Our Future Vision

    future

A vision of what we want St. Peter’s to be:
Empowered by the cross of Christ and the Spirit at work in us, we are compelled to reach out and share past the doors of the Church.  We are called to cast the net of God’s love (see red heart in net) into a world that is clouded, to rescue people who are drowning in turbulent seas. That same net is our safety net, knowing that the love of Christ holds us and enables us to take risks for the sake of sharing him with others.  The small hands on top of the net depict the young children in our congregation who are reaching their families with the love and hope of Jesus.  The old, experienced hands are there to support the young in living for Jesus.  The net is also in the shape of a shell which depicts people coming to baptism where they receive streams of living water from Jesus, which empowers them to go out and share Jesus….and so the cycle continues.

    Our Purpose

What drives our church?   What is our purpose?
We are driven by the words and commands of Jesus:

The Great Commandment: Matthew 22: 37-39
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself”

The Great Commission:  Matthew 28: 19-20
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you."

Out of these two texts, come the five purposes of the Church.

    Five Purposes of the Church:

  • Worship - “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all our mind”.
  • Nurture – “Go and make disciples”, “teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you”.
  • Fellowship – “baptise in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”
  • Service - “love your neighbour as yourself”
  • Outreach - “Go and make”
